Bruce,
Is this the upside down bolt right near the pipe outlet, or is it coming from the cylinder head cover area and dribbling down ? I've had some question on my cylinder head cover gasket condition, I've notice a slight staining of the upper fins hear the left front cover area, just like last season. Last winter, I had to redo the left front large nut which is one of four holding the head/cylinder to the block. The OEM installation was raggedy and oil was leaking up around the copper washer and pooling up on top of the head. I turned a new copper washer, and used a bit of YamaBond gasket stuff when I reinstalled it. This season the nut leak is gone but there is still a damp area from part of the cylinder head cover/head junction, near the plug. This winter I might redo the cover gasket, it'd be fun to look at the valve assembly also.
I don't know how much to repair your leak, but it shouldn't be too much. At least the Savage is easy to work on, piece of cake for upper end repairs compared to the V's. That's why I like a single !! Try mailing Justin the mechanic on the site, he seems to know what's up with these gizmos......
Keep us posted,
